I like Cottage Grove for many reasons. They filmed ANIMAL HOUSE here. Buster Keaton made his classic THE GENERAL movie here. Even Shack and A Number One visited during the filming of EMPEROR of the NORTH. But that's not the best part...the best part are all the people who live here, remember what happened and are willing to visit with strangers and talk about it. The historical society is a good place to start. Even if you are just passing by, you have to stop and see downtown Cottage Grove.

We drove through Old Town-cute and very walkable, but it was raining and we didn't have time to try some eateries and shop.

A nice collection of antique stores, unique shops and delicious restaurants. Reminds me of my home town. Comfortable and easily accessible. Lots of street parking, and the people locally are very friendly.

Better viewed during summer months, expected more color for a Fall visit. Was not a busy time for area merchants

Loved the covered bridges in town and nearby but disappointed with downtown historic area...few antique/gift/art shops. Also disappointed with "arboretum"... lovely riverside park with lots of trails, but not what I consider an arboretum.

It has some stores that have a lot of things to look at, some have historical facts. Typical type stores for the area.

During the summer on the last Fri of the month local shops and artisans show and celebrate their wares. Friends and neighbors shop and visit. There's something for all ages. A nice walk on a summer evening.

It's a cute little town with some locally owned shops and restaurants. The claim to fame is it hosted the Buster Keaton film "The General" in 1926.

Cottage Grove is a small town known for it's many covered bridges and user friendly sidewalks and parks. If you want to get some great history of the town, you should definitely stop by the Chamber of Commerce which shares the building with their community library. My husband said the lady in the Chamber of Commerce was a very nice person who made the bridges and history of the small town so inviting that we went on a adventure hunt to hunt down every single covered bridge in and around Cottage Grove. This is a very nice little town to visit.

We were given a brochure at Village Green and spent a lovely morning walking the Main Street sidewalks. A covered bridge, coast fork of the Willamette River, a large and friendly health food store (Sunshine), and several shops were enjoyable. We had lunch at Buster's, as had rightly been recommended.

We stopped in Cottage Grove both on our way to and from Portland. Cutest town you can imagine! Not only does the town center have the early 20th century look, but there is public art in the form of murals everywhere. And the Covered Bridge Tour is really great- true Americana! Each of them is preserved. Taking the Covered Bridge Route is just beautiful as the countryside is some of the most beautiful you can imagine. We also had lunch and bought pastries at the Backstage Bakery, 25 S 7th St, Cottage Grove, OR 97424. Delicious! and the pastries are some of the best you will ever have.
