This is one of the most beautiful sand beaches on the lake. Lots of room for the public to use. It even includes a dog park on the beach. They've improved the restaurant and I have not gone there YET. Hopefully I'll be around this summer to try it out.Large park on north end for picnicking in the shade. Substantial play are and playground on the beach. Know for its beach volleyball, with lots of flat sandy courts.A large, open, deep waterway channel enters Muskegon Lake. You may see large sailing vessels, pirate ships, barges, catamarans, tugs, Lake Express boat, fishing boats, and pleasure boats all in one day!A beautiful place to watch a sunset.

Most other reviewers were there for warm weather and make references to swimming and the beach. We went today to see the ice caves before they melt. The splashing water freezes into cave like formations. We didn't climb in them like some people because we had safety concerns. The lighthouse had ice that was formed from splashing waves from the big storms earlier in the winter. It's amazing to see a lighthouse encased in ice from the waves. I'm glad we went to see this before it melts.

Took 5 year old granddaughter with us and she loved it! She especially liked getting splashed by the big waves out by the lighthouse! She was one happy little girl and she keeps asking when can we go back? Excellent place for families.

This place, also called "The Ovals", is the best kept secret. Lake Michigan is so large that the beautiful yellow sand beach gives the impression of being on the Pacific Ocean but no smell of fish. The seagulls give the "music of the beach", soaring windsurfers for entertainment, and a great place to visit all summer long. This place within our hometown compares with many European and Mexican coastlines.Rental cottages are available but you may have to contact the Visitor's Bureau for info. Living in Muskegon, I have no personal need for renting on the beach.

Promoters call the Great Lakes shoreline the "Third Coast" (as in East Coast, West Coast, Third Coast). If you're a beach lover, this fresh water expanse is generally cleaner and less crowded than any ocean beach I've visited, and the water contains nothing that bites or stings. The down side is that the water stays colder much longer than the water at a tropical beach, and beachside amenities are present but modest.

A great place for families to enjoy beach & water. Plan to stay for a while to take in the beauty of the gorgeous sunsets that occur every night.

We have spent many days off the shore of Pere Marquette Boating in the summer - and many walks out to the light house. Beautiful!

Pere Marquette is a lovely, clean beach with a fantastic lighthouse you can walk out to. The water and shoreline is very clean(not sludgy like the Chicago side of Lake Michigan). There are restrooms and venders plus a picnic area with tables if you choose. For families there is a playground and a special area just for the dogs! Whether you come to swim or drive the coast line be sure to add pere Marquette to your list of stops!

We have lived near Pere Marquette for 20+ years and have enjoyed it more and more. Great for families or for just hanging out on a "beach day". The photography opportunities are endless - I love to set up my tripod and record the sunlight and the waves. It is beautiful all year round... come and visit!

This is an absolutely amazing public beach. The white sands seem to go forever. You can walk on the beach, on the breakwater out to the lighthouse or on the sidewalk away from the water. There are several areas with swings, slides and rides for kids. If you like waves, stay outside of the breakwater but inside is quiet and flat. Perfect for relaxing. Plenty of parking and with the new restaurant, there is no reason not to return.Just don't leave too early and miss the sunsets.

No trip to Muskegon is complete until we have gone to Pere Marquette Park and walked along the breakwater. I grew up in Muskegon and Pere Marquette Park is so much a part of my life. We used to have family reunions on the beach, Sunday picnics with family, lots of wonderful hours spent swimming in Lake Michigan, playing volleyball, swinging and walking along the shore. It took moving away over 30 years ago to realize what an incredible place this park is. A good portion of my family returns to Muskegon every summer and we rent a house on the beach. We enjoy all the beach has to offer. For the person that complained about the blowing sand, get over it. This is nature at it's best and worst. There are days the sand blows, it rains, or it's cold - dress appropriately and enjoy the beauty of Pere Marquette. Or simply sit in your car where you are protected and watch the wind blow the sand and create huge waves. Even in a storm the lake has the power to be hypnotic. My parents taught me well, I had to take swimming lessons to learn to swim in the Great Lakes, enjoy the water and always always respect the power of the water.

Was expecting more of a park vibe (hiking, picnicking etc) was pretty much just a beach. We did take the walkway out to the little lighthouse which was nice. Would definitely go back with the kids.
